Subaru Forester


The Subaru company has won back-to-back Motor Trend Sport-Utility Vehicle ("SUV") of the year awards. The third generation Subaru Forester came out in 2009 and won the award. In 2010, Subaru launched its new generation Outback and it won the award for the current model year.

The Forester competes in the compact SUV class against such competitors as the Honda CR-V, Chevrolet Equinox, Ford Escape, Hyundai Tucson, and Toyota RAV-4. It comes standard with a 2.5 liter 170 horsepower four-cylinder boxer engine. It has seating for five passengers. The Forester offers several different trims include the 2.5XT Premium and 2.5XT Limited that comes with a turbocharged version of the base engine producing 224 horsepower. It only costs $500 more than comparable base trim models.

For hauling loads, the Forester has 33.5-cubic-foot of rear cargo space and 68.3-cubic-feet with the rear seats folded. Forester XT trims have about thee cubic feet less smaller cargo room than the other model trims. This is comparable to its competitors in the compact SUV class.

The Forester 2.5x Limited has a manufacturer's suggested retail price of $25,995, which includes power seats, leather, ABS brakes, Stability Control, and air conditioning. The four-speed automatic Forester is rated 20-mpg city, and 26-mpg highway. XT Trims have slightly worse fuel efficiency rated at 19-mpg city and 24-mpg highway. All Subaru's come standard with all-wheel drive.
